The ‘Hawaiian Photos’ collection comes from my Hawaii chapter. When I had little room to create or money to spend on my art and had to get crafty. I found these little greeting cards at local thrift and antique shops I would frequent in hopes of finding something cool to paint on.

At first I only found three, but as I searched I found more. They were always waiting in the dark dusty corners for someone to rediscover them. Each card came with a description of the photo on the back and some info on the original organization that created them.

I found these photos of old and pre-colonized Hawaii breathtaking and deserving of a second chance. So from then on, whenever I found one I bought it and brought it back to my little room on the hillsides of Captain Cook to paint on it.

This collection is still living as I’ve found more years later on a trip to Kauai and plan on continuing my search whenever I’m back on the islands. With this collection I hope to breathe new life into old photos and bring them back into the forfront of our awareness.
